Tommasi Viticoltori, historical winery from the Valpolicella Classico area, co-operates with an equally historical company, Garbellotto Spa. Garbellotto was established in 1775 as a hand-crafted company specialized in the production of wooden barrels, cask and artefacts. During the 1800s it began increasingly specializing in the production of barrels and tanks for cellars. In 1920 the company started to re-organize itself according to an industrial system, continuing its expansion throughout the 1900s. Currently Garbellotto is the world leader in cask production. The company is set in an establishment of 61340 m2 and, with 70 employees, produces 45,000 hl barrels per year.

«For many years» says Pierangelo Tommasi «we have been working in partnership with Garbellotto to select the best wood, which best fitted the Valpolicella wines refinement and our Amarone in particular. The wines of the Valpolicella Classico region, in fact, do not prefer any maturation in “aggressive” wood like the one used for barriques, but they require a slow and meticulous refinement in soft, neutral and sweet wood, so that wines can evolve to the best and preserve their integrity and character.»

After many experiences we have selected this particular and unique mix of wood, which is the best for Tommasi Amarone in order to maintain its typical style. Having a 33,300 lts barrel like this, where the Amarone ages and refines uniformly for over 3 years, is the guarantee for having then bottled a unique, elegant and excellent wine.

Tommasi Viticoltori is a family company founded in 1902 and run by the 4th generation. It is located in the heart of the Valpolicella Classico region. The estate extends over 135 hectares of hillside vineyards. Tommasi has specialized in the production of the Divine Nectar Amarone and has deservedly become one of its principal ambassadors to the world. Tommasi Amarone is intense and of great refinement, smooth and full bodied thanks to the ancient and inherited drying process of the grapes and ageing in large oak barrels.

Tommasi family has made the attainment of excellence a moral imperative.

The cask will be presented during Vinitaly in Verona, on Thursday 8th April at 15.00 at the Garbellotto stand (Hall F – D3), in the presence of an official GWR judge to ratify the world record.
