Vintage Characteristics: A rapid vine growth assured sufficient foliage to favour the flowering, which started in the last week of May. Little rainfall in June and July granted a regular fruit-setting in all grape varieties. Some rain in August (about 60 mm and no hail) fostered an excellent veraison. The grapes were harvested on sunny days characterized by a considerable difference between day and night temperatures (25/8°C). These weather conditions enabled us to harvest perfectly healthy grapes with high sugar content and at the ideal level of phenolic maturity. Climatic conditions continued to be good during the winter, with sunny, clear days. Temperatures above the average caused a more consistent loss of weight in the grapes set aside for partial drying. We expect an excellent vintage.
Tasting notes: Color intense ruby red. Bouquet warm and spicy bouquet, with aromas of raisins. This is due to the fact that the grapes are allowed to partially dry prior to fermenting. Well-structured, complex, elegant and velvety. Amarone has a distinctive flavour because of its unique production method. An extremely important wine in Italian viticulture, Amarone is an exclusive and unique symbol of the Valpolicella region. Over the course of time, Allegrini has improved its production method with the goal being to best preserve the characteristics of the fruit whilst drying.
Food Pairings: Traditionally enjoyed with game, roasted and grilled meats, casseroles and well matured cheeses. Excellent with hearty dishes. Amarone’s distinctive flavor compliments new and exotic sweet and sour dishes. It is therefore also perfect with Asian and middle-eastern dishes. Serve at 18°C (64°F) and open the bottle an hour before consuming. This wine has the potential to age for more than 20 years.
